A cervical collar, also known as a neck brace, is a medical device used to support a person's neck. Cervical collars are also used therapeutically to help stabilize the cervical column and relieve pain. Hard collars are most commonly prescribed for cervical spine stabilization following either trauma, surgery, or fractures/dislocations[2]. Rigid braces are made from molded plastic with a removable padded liner in two pieces—a front and back piece—fastened with Velcro.

Indications

Recommended where a rigid immobilization of the cervical region is required.

Long time use of hard collar should be discouraged because of the side effects (atrophy and shortening of the neck musculature) [5]. About appropriate time of using consult with your physician.
