Forefoot pain & Gout
One of reason of forefoot pain is Gout. Gout is a form of arthritis caused by aggregation of uric acid within the body which is a waste product of metabolism. It is most prevalent in men between 40 and 60 years. Risk factors of gout disease include a diet high in some meats, seafood and alcohol. It is most common in the big toe, but may also be present in the heel, ankle, knee, elbow, wrist or fingers.
Symptoms of Gout Disease
- Gout symptoms tend to come on very quickly.
- Intense pain in the joint, usually affecting the big toe and foot.
- Warmth, swelling, and extreme tenderness in big toe joint.
- The skin may appear red and shiny.
- Limited movement in the affected joint.
- Itching of the skin around the affected joint.
Gout Treatment
- Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID's) such as Ibuprofen can be taken in the first instance to decrease pain.
- Rest with foot elevated the foot.
- Apply cold therapy to cool the joint.
- Lifestyle changes include avoiding or decreasing uses of some meats, seafood and alcohol beverages.
- Drink enough plenty of water.
- If you are overweight, losing weight can help to decrease your uric acid levels.
- Taking regular exercise.
- Consuming adequate vitamin C such as citrus, orange and lemon
